The Cruz de Mayo festival has been declared Venezuela’s cultural heritage in 2014, is a tradition celebrated throughout the country since colonial times and which has been passed for over 150 years.
Every May 3, Venezuelans dress the cross with bright flowers as an offering for good harvests and to ask for Virgin’s protection for the rest of the year.
The celebration is a tribute to nature made at the beginning of the rainy season as a call to soil fertility.
